“After Chapel Chats.”
“Sideline Shenanigans.”
“Moving Forward.”
All these videos have one thing in common: The people behind the camera.
Seth Manley and Cathryn Jones are video editors that work for Campbellsville University. They create and edit videos to post on CU’s social media platforms.
“I have always loved capturing everyday moments and having those memories to look back on,” said Manley. “I always loved video because it brought you right back into the memory.”
With more than nine years in the media industry, Manley has grown his videography skills tremendously. He began his studies down the road at Asbury University and majored in mass communication and media studies. Right after he graduated, he was given the opportunity to go to South Korea in 2018 to be a camera assistant at the Winter Olympics.
“It was awesome being a part of that crew and meeting people from different cultures,” Manley said.
Throughout his time as a videographer, he has shot many different things. Weddings, sports videos and even some of his own creative content. His favorite style is documentary.
“I just love telling stories of real people and connecting with people from all backgrounds and telling stories that matter,” Manley said.
His days as the special projects videographer for Campbellsville University vary from day to day.
“Most are spent editing and planning videos,” Manley said. “But also, a lot of days look different from filming social media videos like ‘Chapel Chats’ to filming the president’s university updates [Moving Forward].”
His favorite part of his job at CU is getting to work with very creative people and students. One of those people is Social Media Manager Cathryn Jones.
“I have been working with her the last couple of years, and she is the most creative person on our campus,” he said. “We have gotten to create and work on some amazing projects together.”
Jones has made countless short films and projects in all different places. She has been to the NFL Draft in Detroit, the Grand Ole Opry and California. Her favorite artistic stories are the projects with athletics.
“Seth and I have created a football short film the past two years and are creating another one this year, and it is one of my favorite projects all year long,” Jones said.
As she grows in skill and experience, the projects she makes gains attention and excitement. She’s trilled about the project she has coming this fall for football.
“The one this year might be my favorite story, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for the jumbotron at home games and on social media for that one,” she said.
Jones is an avid sports fan. She grew up loving sports, especially football, and art. Wanting to be able to combine both sports and art was a passion of hers from a very young age.
“I always say my brain thinks in football movies,” Jones said. “‘Remember the Titans’ being one of my favorites that I pull a lot of inspiration from.”
Jones and Manley are the brains behind the brawn that is Campbellsville University’s social media. They spend countless hours brainstorming, planning, editing and posting all the content that Campbellsville students and the entire community enjoys.
Jacob Hayes, the host of “Chapel Chats,” had good things to say about the two. He works with them every Wednesday, making videos for the students to enjoy and participate in.
“It is no secret that Seth and Cathryn are hard workers,” Hayes said. “Whether they are covering an event on campus to help promote different organizations and departments, or they are creating new ways of entertainment to help reach out to potential students for recruiting purposes.”
Hayes works with Manley and Jones on a consistent basis. He hosts shows, helps with creating content and brings a smile to the editing room.
“They are both very knowledgeable in their fields of expertise,” Hayes said. “And I’m glad to be a small part of their team on Wednesday.”
You may not see them, but you’ve definitely seen their work. Manley and Jones are the brains behind the operation that is CU’s social media juggernaut. Next time you see a video promoting Campbellsville University and its many organizations, remember the names behind the lens.
