It’s 2:30 p.m. and I just clocked out from my job.
I feel relieved and very happy.
I just met a new friend. Her name is Lucy, she’s full of energy, loves life and has positive vibes. She and her father, Brett, visited Campbellsville University recently for a tour. I had the privilege of getting to know them and showed them around campus.
We started off at the Heilman Welcome Center, then to Starbucks, and then we made our way to the Student Commons and Ransdell Chapel.
Walking through these buildings, I introduced myself, told her about my weird accent, my major, my passions and then I asked her to share some things about herself.
I was hoping to get her attention with some questions, but most importantly, to get to her heart, understand her personality and connect with her and her dad.
We continued chit chatting and talking around the Badget Academic Support Center, the Student Activities Center, the administration building and finally we got to the dorms. I gave her a brief explanation comparing pros and cons of the housing we offer. Both Lucy and Brett were very engaging with me, asking questions and making jokes with me. It was lovely!
After showing them the library, we returned to the Welcome Center and that’s when I wanted to share a piece of advice.
I will probably never see them again and they might not remember me, but I wanted to leave Lucy with something: the reason why I picked Campbellsville University. The community environment on campus is extraordinary. I had no idea of this small but pretty private campus in the middle of Kentucky. I could not speak great English at the beginning due to my Italian origins, and definitely being away from home was a huge challenge for me.
However, I told her: “You cannot imagine, it may seem a joke, but in this small tiny place I found everything I needed.”
It’s going to be a different environment, new challenges and new friends. But people here care for you, they want you to succeed. That’s when I said to her, “Do rely on people, do not be afraid to ask or to make new experiences.”
Committing here was definitely one of the best choices I have ever made.
They thanked me, we shook hands, I let them talk to a counselor and my job was done. I did everything I could to share my love for Jesus and for Campbellsville University to this new family.
I clocked out and headed home.
I am looking forward to going back in the admissions office tomorrow morning to give another tour to more prospective students and their families.
I am very grateful for this university, for the people I met inside this job and outside, but most importantly, for God’s calling, love and faithfulness.
