United we stand, divided we fall is a statement that has lived in our hearts, our minds and our society for more than 80 years now. But the gag is, we are more divided than ever. Our first amendment rights to freedom of speech have been completely thrown out of existence. People are scared and afraid to be uncomfortable to be made comfortable.
We live in a state of panic, or better yet, fight or flight, and it’s sad. This decade has become so depressing and dark it makes the past look like we lived in a beautiful dystopia. But, in reality, we’re putting on masks and hiding behind them. People need to learn that empathy and sympathy are not the same. I sometimes question, where is the love, the encouragement, the support? We live as if we’re in war every day, not only with ourselves, but with each other.
We should not be afraid to speak freely, but we should do it in a respectful manner. We seem to forget that you will reap what you sow. I’ll put it like this, for those that know their Bible, or for the ones that are learning, stay for a lesson you might learn something.
In the Bible it says, Proverbs 18:21, “power of the tongue,” which refers to the immense influence that words have to either uplift or destroy. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Where does this so-called internal power come from? Well, the power stems from one’s heart. The heart can express our true character, and it can build up or tear down relationships and destinies. But one must learn control, then guard their heart, speak words of grace and encouragement, be quick to listen, and seek wisdom and accountability in their speech. Pause, re-read and “BE QUICK TO LISTEN.” One should not be quick to argue, or yell, or speak, but to listen. God gave and blessed you with two ears and one mouth, I wonder why? I’ll let you answer that one.
The power of the tongue is powerful. It says you can either speak life or death. Here’s the catch, if all you speak out into this world is negativity, that’s all you will get back. Your days will be filled with resentment. And no, don’t think this is just a feeling that can easily go away. It can become a lasting feeling of displeasure. It can lead to indignation or a real big one that fits especially with recent events, ill will, injustice, or feeling unappreciated. We live in a bubble where all we want to talk about is destruction, but we have to believe there is hope in today.
You have a voice, use it! If something doesn’t feel right in your spirit, then do something about it.
Be the change you want to see.
Stop waiting for things to happen.
In this day and age, you have to fight for what you believe in. Never let anyone make you lose sight of it, nor prevent you from reaching every level, because we can’t afford to go down from here. We have to rise above. In times like these, you must find hope and believe in yourself. Start being active instead of reactive.
I’ll sum it up with this, as the great King of Pop said, “If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make that change.”
