A Christian doesn’t try to stop someone from going down the wrong path for fear of seeming “judgmental.” I’m sorry we failed you.
A Christian doesn’t fulfill his duty of giving the Gospel to someone because he feels that person is beneath him. I’m sorry we failed you.
A Christian lives a life full of sin and worldliness, corrupting his testimony. I’m sorry we failed you.
The truth is every Christian will fail you. I don’t care how many of us seem to live good, clean lives, we all are still sinners. I John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” People don’t get saved because they’re good people—they get saved because they understand they’re not.
If you are looking for the perfection necessary for salvation, stop looking at sinners. At our best, we in our physical bodies are cheap imitations of the real thing. At times we can even stray so far in our walk that you would never have a clue that we were saved.
We try to find perfection in every aspect of life, and in every aspect of life we end up disappointed. We live in a broken world, scarred by the wounds of sin—sin committed every day. As Romans 6:23 states, the wages of this sin is death. There will be no cure on Earth as we know it. Only when Jesus returns and makes all things new can the stain of sin be removed from this world.
But there is hope right now. Romans 5:12 says, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” We deserve Hell because of our sin. It’s impossible for man to not sin. But I Corinthians 15:21-22 says, “For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”
Jesus Christ came down from Heaven and lived a normal life just like you and me, with one very important exception—he committed no sin. This would be an impossibility for the natural man, which is why the Son of God was the only one who could fulfil this.
Someone living a sinless life would do nothing for you and me—that’s why Jesus had to take the punishment which we deserved. He, undeserving of death, died on a cross, was buried and rose from the dead three days later to take the wrath which we deserved—that’s the Gospel.
Through belief in the Gospel, we can have eternal life. We may not act like it all the time, but because of Jesus, our old man will one day be forever conquered in death, and a sinless new man will live on throughout eternity.
I Corinthians 15:53-54 says, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”
When looking for perfection, don’t look at a saved sinner—look at his Saviour.
